Hi, my name is Camille Thoms. Welcome to my travel/writing site. I’m a creative writer, a poet with the opportunity to travel to over 30 states and over 20 countries. Here you can find written my experiences. But first, get to know the writer behind the words.
Growing up in Rock Island, Illinois, I traveled the world with my parents. The most frequent destinations were France and Costa Rica. In high school, I went to Culver Girls Academy in Culver, Indiana and was the first student to get Honors in Creative Writing as a sophomore. There, 20% of my classmates were international students and 18% of the professors had their doctorate in their teachings. Because of CGA, I got to go to China for a GPS trip (Global Perspective Spring trip). I am currently attending Drake University’s School of Journalism & Mass Communication for Digital Media Production and Data Analysis.
I currently run the social media for West Glen Town Center in West Des Moines as an intern with Happy Medium. During my internship, I also worked with IFA on their database management system for a housing survey that matches the homeowner with the right advisor for their home loan. I am also building the brand for Script Pilates with their founder Dr. Kelly Caldbeck. Currently, we’re building the social media strategy, their website system, and their branding plan. I’m also designing merch products like stickers and patches. In the past, I was a nanny and babysitter for 4 years, a front desk administrator for 2 years, a respite caregiver, an escape room game master, and a server.
I live in the East Village of Des Moines with my boyfriend and our two cats, Buster and Luna. I enjoy watching Lost, Gilmore Girls, The Newsroom, and YouTube. I play Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Fortnite, Ghost of Tsushima, Monster Hunter Wild, and Hello Kitty Island Adventure. I frequently sew and embroider, draw and paint, and do fun art projects, like when I found a mannequin in a hospital dumpster, cleaned it up, and designed it in faux moss, vines, and flowers to turn her into the beautiful honor of the growth as a person in my dining room named Ms. Quinn. As an 80-year-old trapped in a 24-year-old body, I also play cribbage, backgammon and collect buttons.
